Sen. Charles Schumer (D-New York) Proposes Legislation Targeting Ticket Resellers

Interesting idea that would force companies like TicketsNow to wait two days until buying extra tickets to concerts and then jacking up the price.  Read Pitchfork for the full story.

News Beat

This is a new feature I’m trying out: picking a news item from the day and coupling it with a song that allegedly fits the item.  Today’s news item is a no-brainer (click on the opening lines of the text for the full article):

Spitzer Is Leaked To Prostitution Ring

ALBANY – Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who gained national prominence relentlessly pursuing Wall Street wrongdoing, has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a law enforcement official and a person briefed on the investigation.

Naughty, naughty Eliot did a bad, bad thing.  While some humorous possibilities exist examining the situation from Eliot’s side (The Hives’ “Find Another Girl” or Journey’s “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’”), his wife’s perspective (James Brown’s “Get Up Offa That Thing” or the jazz classic “Rocks in My Bed”), I think a more appropriate song would be the one I hinted at in the opening line of this paragraph:

Chris Isaak’s Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing

M@M: The Hives-Die, Alright! (Rock Band edition)

Watch a Rock Band expert complete The Hives’ “Die, Alright!” and then download the mp3 below.  Round it out by buying an album or three.  This is, of course, in honor of The Hives show I attended tonight; review forthcoming.

Hives and Hockey

Just yesterday I read an interview with the Hives’ Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist in Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Star Tribune. An excerpt from the article (emphasis mine):

Q We’re [Minneapolis] also a big hockey town. You guys played the NHL All-Star Game last month, how was that?A I’m the least biggest hockey fan in the group, but I had fun. It was just such a bizarre spectacle. There were fireworks going off and dancing girls and all that sort of thing. Also, I saw Garth Brooks in the VIP booth. That was cool. I didn’t get to meet him, though. What would I say to him?

Is that so, Pelle? Well then how come I open up my copy of Pitchfork when I come home from school and find this:

Hives Challenge Vancouver Canucks To Hockey Game

What the puck, indeed. Either Pelle had a change of heart after only two days, or it is all part of The Hives’ Diabolic Scheme…(mp3 and tour dates after the jump)…
