M@M: Feist-1 2 3 4

Feist is going to be joining Minnesota Twin Carlos Gomez as humans-turned-Muppets, as she re-records last year’s hit, “1 2 3 4″ for Sesame Street. Details HERE. The video is pretty hilarious, with the new lyrics and all. Seems like it should be a Weird Al Yankovic vid. Video and MP3 below.

No woman, no…

…great songs about women. So here you have it, the 23 best songs with “woman” in the title. Some are included for novelty’s sake (Shania Twain) while others are included due to their ability to inspire (Ray Charles). Even a couple of them included no other words in the title besides “woman.”

Surprisingly, the artists making the list (especially those sitting on the throne of the Top 5) are older artists. Maybe as time has passed and gender has begun to be blurred, music is reflecting the change.(MP3s at the VERY bottom of the post soon to come available if you click on the word “woman.”)

23. This Woman’s Work-Maxwell. Included only because we share a name.

22. Things Go Better With Coke (A Man and a Woman)-Otis Redding. Otis would be higher than this if it were not such a sell-out song.

21. Man! I Feel Like a Woman-Shania Twain. I feel a little sick for putting Shania above Otis Redding on ANY list.

20. Mountain Woman-The Kinks.

19. The Ways of a Woman in Love-Johnny Cash. (more…)

A few items of note…

  • Voluptuous actress Scarlett Johansson has a new album coming out. This is big news for anyone who is a fan of the lovely Scarlett. Not sure when it’s coming out, and haven’t heard anything, but based on her version of the jazz classic “Summertime” (found in digital mp3 form at the bottom of the post), it shows some definite promise.
  • Pitchfork-heavy today, but that is okay, since all of this news is great news. Of Montreal has released a cover of the sexy M.I.A. song “Jimmy.” This song can also be found in mp3 form below.
  • Spin online has a couple of annual lists: Best of ‘07 and Lookin’ Ahead to ‘08. Some really interesting picks make their top 40 of ‘07 including The Hives (13), Peter, Bjorn and John (23, and which I saw on NO other list this year!), and two Minnesotans: Prince and Brother Ali (12 and 30, respectively).
  • …And Feist will be doing the Olympics.

Playlist: Numbers

What’s in a number? Obviously inspiration for many of the artists below. Enjoy the top five and two mp3s after the jump.

19: Rolling Stones19th Nervous Breakdown. Not any great “10″ songs, so why not jump up to this classic?

9: The TemptationsCloud Nine. Sorry Damien Rice, neither the album nor the song cut it.

8: Tapes ‘n TapesCrazy Eights. This was possibly the hardest head-to-head pick I had to make between this rockin’ ditty and The Beatles’ Eight Days a Week.

7: Bob Dylan’s Seven Days. I knew he’d find his way on the list somehow. Off the Bootleg recordings.

6: Toots and the MaytallsSix and Seven Books of Moses. Could knock off two numbers with this one song, but when we’re talking music lists, less is not more. (more…)
