Billy Bob Thornton Imitates Bob Dylan

From the Superficial…

Reminds me a little of…

Keep going, Billy Bob. You’ve got a little work to do. (I also enjoy the fact that he doesn’t even perform with his band at the end of the interview.)

Check out Billy Bob’s The Boxmasters on MySpace, if you dare.

New Music: Bob Dylan-Beyond Here Lies Nothin’

The man is unstoppable.  Surprising folks even close to him with the announcement of an upcoming album release next month, he debuted the magic today on his web site with a free download of “Beyond Here Lies Nothin’.”  To me this sounds a little more like Love and Theft than his last album, Modern Times, with a little southwestern ramble thrown in the mix.

And did I mention? You do not have to enter your e-mail, birthdate, mailing address, credit card number, first spouse’s name, or ANYTHING to get the mp3.  Classy, Bob.

For the free song, visit www.bobdylan.com

While listening to the tune, check out his visit to Pitchfork’s “Echo Chamber.”  Nice quote, and great advice.

Sunday Songs VI: Bob Dylan-Desolation Row (Live at Royal Albert Hall, 1966)

Due to a number of recommendations I’ve received lately, I purchased the comic book collection/graphic novel Watchmen.  I opened to the copyright page and saw that the artists used Bob Dylan’s lyrics from Desolation Row somewhere in the many pages to come.  Needless to say, I was sold right away.  I have only begun the book, but it is incredibely enjoyable thus far, and I am pumped to see the movie.

Desolation Row is the last track on Dylan’s, Highway 61 Revisited, and the only acoustic track on the album.  Read more about the song on Wikipedia, and enjoy the video and live download below.

1 in 4 Teen Girls Has Sexual Disease

CHICAGO (AP) – At least one in four teenage girls nationwide has a sexually transmitted disease, or more than 3 million teens, according to the first study of its kind in this age group.

Again, there are too many hilarious possibilities for this one, but this one fits the bill:

Sunday Songs I

I do not need to explain that distinct feeling one gets on a Sunday, particularly a Sunday afternoon.  The inevitability of the future that you do not want to come, the impending doom surrounding the finish to a great weekend with few responsibilities. Perhaps Alan Bennett explained it best:

“The majority of people perform well in a crisis and when the spotlight is on them; it’s on the Sunday afternoons of this life, when the nobody is looking, that the spirit falters.”

And so comes Sunday Songs, two tunes that capture very well that sinking one goes through as Monday approaches.

A Whiter Shade of Dylan

UPDATE: 3 “cold” MP3s posted below.

From our Carl Carpenter file, from MTV:

WHITE AND DYLAN COLLABORATE
Jack White says he’s working with Bob Dylan on his new album, a set of
unfinished songs started by late country star Hank Williams. White is one
of a number of high profile musicians Dylan has asked to contribute, writing
lyrics for the incomplete tracks. Explaining that he had worked on the song
‘You Know That I Know’, White explained how other stars had been asked by Dylan to help out with around 25 different tracks. “He did one, asked Willie Nelson to do one, asked me to do one, and I think Lucinda Williams and Alan Jackson are on it too”, he told MTV. “I think it might come out this year. It’s a cool record”.

Be sure to visit Carl’s London blog, and check back later below for MP3s.
