MN Bands to Play Show for Barack Obama

Via Pitchfork (thanks again, guys!), MN staples Low, Tapes ‘n’ Tapes, P.O.S., and other various Minnesota music acts will don the stage at St. Paul’s Turf Club. Reasons this is awesome below:

  • This will be August 27, a mere few days before Republicans take over the state during the Republican National Convention.
  • The music is going to be sick (refer to mp3s below to let the bands explain themselves)
  • These guys will be raising money for an awesome candidate who is going to dominate Minnesota.

MP3: Low-Breaker

MP3: Tapes ‘n’ Tapes-Insistor (Live on KEXP)

What’s on Barack Obama’s iPod?

Rolling Stone has a short interview with Rolling Stone-endorsed Presidential candidate Barack Obama, checking out his musical tastes and preferences. Describing his tastes as eclectic, his iPod shows tunes from Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Elton John, Earth Wind and Fire, Yo-Yo Ma and Sheryl Crow.

What do you think is on John McCain’s iPod portable record player?

Barack Obama’s playlist(?):

MP3: Bob Dylan-Shelter from the Storm

MP3: Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run

MP3: Earth, Wind, and Fire-Shining Star

MP3: Miles Davis-So What

MP3: Jay-Z-December 4th

MP3: Elton John-Bennie and the Jets

The Roots on The Colbert Report

Faux-conservative commentator and former correspondent of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, is spending a week in Philadelphia leading up to next Tuesday’s Democratic primary event between Bruce Springsteen-endorsed Barack Obama and Mayor Nutter-endorsed Hillary Clinton.  Last night he hosted Philly natives The Roots, as they performed a uniquely dark version of The Star Spangled Banner.  It is obviously reminiscent of Sir Jimi Hendrix’s performance of the song at Woodstock nearly 40 years ago; watch it below (mp3s below the video):

MP3: Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run

MP3: The Roots-Masters of War

MP3: Jimi Hendrix-Star Spangled Banner

M@M: Sondre Lerche-Two Way Monologue

This is the best song title I could come up with on my iTunes to describe the Hillary-Barack sitch right now.  Other suggestions are welcomed in the comments section.  (MP3 below the vid.)

Visit Sondre’s blog HERE.

Did you know that Sondre was in and wrote the music for Steve Carrell’s film Dan in Real Life.

Yes. We. Can.

I know we’ve been on a bit of a streak, some would say, with some political posts, and for good reason.  Tsunami Tuesday is only two days away, and I could not be more excited.  There’s not a whole lot more I can say about it now in just a short quick post, but come on Barack!
