M@M: Johnny Cash-Get Rhythm

Check out this REALLY old Johnny Cash, mid-to-late ’50s.  Whenever you’re feeling down, boogie down=good advice.

M@M: Wavves-So Bored

The younger Carpenter was checking out this show tonight in Minneapolis.  Hopefully we’ll be getting a review out of him.  If not, you’ll just have to enjoy the video and mp3 below.

M@M: The Who-My Generation

Incredible performance of the band’s biggest hit. Pure overindulgence.

M@M: Garotas Suecas-Bacana Bacana

Clearly ’60s influenced.  Clearly Brazilian. Clearly their name means “Swedish Girls.” Clearly awesome. Clearly.

Definitely check out Garotas Suecas MySpace for more catchy tunes.

M@M: Bobby Womack-California Dreamin’/Across 110th Street

Sorry folks. Sometimes it’s a back-to-back M@M post.  But we’ve treated you to some pretty good ones here.  Bobby Womack regained much fame when his song “Across 110th Street” was featured in the opening credits to Quentin Tarantino’s film “Jackie Brown.”  See him perform that tune here, with a Mamas and the Papas intro…

M@M: Beck-Loser

Beck’s made a resurgence on my iTunes lately.  His album from last year, the Danger-Mouse produced Modern Guilt, was an especially impressive album from a somewhat dry year of music.  Enjoy one of his classic songs here, from an album with the same initials as the aforementioned: Mellow Gold.

M@M: Martha Reeves and the Vandellas-Nowhere to Run (vid)/Honey Chile(mp3)

Yesterday before I went to see a fabulous Justin Townes Earle, I stopped into the soon-to-be-junked Virgin Records, and bought a 42-track Gold collection of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.  I’ve been swimming in musical ecstasy ever since.  Catch a video of their most famous tune below and an mp3 of my favorite tune off the double-disc collection.

M@M: The Trade Winds-New York’s a Lonely Town

So many long nights over the last year and a half have I felt this sentiment.  “From New York to Pasadena Minnesota’s such a long way…”
