Lollapalooza Countdown: 54 Days-Dr. Dog

I first heard Dr. Dog covering Architecture in Helsinki’s “Heart It Races,” and there are some days I still like it even more than the original. They have an album coming out in a few weeks, so it is wholly appropriate that they are profiled today on IfItsGood.

Fun Fact: They once played at the Lebowski Fest, a festival honoring the Coen Brothers’ cult classic The Big Lebowski. For this performance they covered many of the songs from the album’s soundtrack. The band has been playing together since 1999, almost 10 years now, but their biggest successes have come relatively recently, with their Takers and Leavers EP in 2006 and a full LP later that year called We All Belong. Lollapalooza Countdown: 63 Days-The Go! Team

One is hard pressed to find a person who came of age during the mid-90s that does not enjoy the British pop sensation The Go! Team. Why this particular demographic you might ask? Two simple words: Jock Jams. Those looking for a soundtrack for their athletic lives (which is nearly everyone in middle school) needed to turn only one place.  (Those not looking for a soundtrack were hopelessly sucked into this sports anthem mania).  The first one was released in 1995, followed by (the more superior) Jock Jams, Vol. II in 1996.

The Go! Team is Jock Jams updated to meet the adults who long for their youth. They are danceable, unrelentingly positive, and pop harder than Pop Rocks. So grab a Jolly Rancher stick, and listen to these doozies:

Lollapalooza Countdown: 72 Days-Santogold

While I’m sure new indienational (independent + international) sound sensation Santogold will have a fairly packed turn out at the event, it will likely be a concert worth attending.  Many of her songs have proven bloggable, and she’s pretty cute.
