New Girl Talk Album Out This Week
Pitchfork has an excellent interview with Mr. Greg Gillis (aka Girl Talk). He is releasing his new album digitally this week, with a physical release to come soon after. He has also released a new “song,” available on his MySpace site. I do not post it here because I think it’s crap, but check out his page if you want so desperately to listen to it.
According to the interview, the new album, entitled Feed the Animals, will be filled with much contemporary music (examples include Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” and hints at “Hollaback Girl” and a Mariah Carey tune) as well as classic jams (Tag Team’s “Whoomp! There It Is” and Earth Wind and Fire’s “September”). I, for one, cannot wait.

Conor Oberst Tours, Has Dates with Jenny Lewis
Not “date” dates, but times they will play together. On the same stage. Playing instruments, not each other. Check out some mp3s, the dates of his solo shows (c/o Pitchfork), plus the times and locales he will be joining with Jenny Lewis, The Evangelicals, Dri, and A Weather after the jump.

Vampire Weekend @ Central Park Summerstage
–This review is cross-posted at the soon-to-be-launched www.music-news.com USA site.–
Vampire Weekend stormed through New York City’s Central Park this past weekend, brining with them Flosstradamus female Kid Sister, Canadian rock band Born Ruffians, and Kanye’s Beatmaster General A-Trak. The rain came on harder than Summerstage host and musical utility man Andrew W.K, so let the bad weather metaphors commence. You must first understand that the day’s worth of rain came in stages. There was the calm, cool, and refreshing sprinkle that came after an hour of standing exposed in the 90 degree sun. Alternatively, there were moments when the precipitation came in excess. Coincidentally, the few hours of music pelted in audience in a similar manner.
