Cold Cuts
June 9, 2008

It promises to be a cold summer in MN, but in NYC, the weather is hotter than a Skattum’s inner thigh in July. And so here is one chilly, glacier-sized playlist for you to melt in your mouth:
20. Al Corley-Cold Dresses. A nice mid-80s synth-driven tune.
19. The Arcade Fire-Cold Wind. From the Six Feet Under soundtrack.
18. Public Enemy-Cold Lampin’ with Flavor. I’m pretty sure this song wins the award for the most times saying “yo” in the first 30 seconds of a song. Also, references song number 6 on this list.
17. Bob Dylan-Cold Irons Bound. From the more recent album Time Out of Mind.
16. James Brown-Cold Sweat. Not the kind of cold I want right now.
15. Modest Mouse-The Cold Part. Check out the strings in the background of this song.
14. Radiohead-The Gloaming (Softly We Open Our Mouths in the Cold). Electronic twitches and scratches rule this song.
13. Black Lips-Cold Hands
12. The Billionaires-Cold Day
11. Tom Waits-Cold Cold Ground
10. The Electric Soft Parade-Cold World. A must-download. Recently at SxSW.
9. John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band-Cold Turkey. “Cold Turkey has got me on the run.”
8. Shuggie Otis-Ice Cold Daydream. Ice cold funky summer fun.
7. The Twilight Sad-Cold Days from the Birdhouse. Listen to the Scottish wails.
6. Tone Loc-Funky Cold Medina. See number 18.
5. Queen-Stone Cold Crazy. Hear Freddie Mercury sing this extremely fast gangster-themed tune.
4. Adele-Cold Shoulder. One of the hottest new artists, in a cool way.
3. Cold Cold Heart-Norah Jones/Cold Cold Heart-Hank Williams. Two drastically different takes on the same song.
2. The White Stripes-In the Cold, Cold Night. In a rare turn for the striped duo, Meg takes the singing job solo.
1. Foreigner-Cold As Ice. “You’re as cold as ice. You’re willing to sacrifice…our love.”
