The Newest American Gladiator Is Cuban

Just when anti-immigrant sentiment is at an all-time high, having become a priority issue for politicians, the newest induction to the top-rated show, “American Gladiator,” is Cuban. Swam-90-miles-to-Florida Cuban. As we continue to stand rigid in our stance of embargo against Cuban primarily because they are Communists, the Olympics are being held in the largest Communist country in the world. Hmm, me thinks something isn’t right here.

38-year-old Alex Castro is the mighty Militia, in true Marine Corps style: he barks orders at the contestants while flexing impressive biceps. Despite the small racy shorts he is wearing, he is scary. While he has years of formal acting school training, his military persona is not difficult, nor is it a persona.

Maybe this Castro should have taken over.  At least those exploding cigars would have been useless on his massive biceps.

Usher, stealing Michael Jackson’s moves, is SNL’s musical guest

One of the goals of IIG,IG is to support music without assessing its commercial success or its status as an indie hit.  The blog attempts to parse through the image crap.  Sometimes this requires us to defend popular musicians who indie fans wouldn’t necessarily like.  This is not one of those times:

I guess someone forgot to tell Usher, Saturday Night Live’s season finale musical guest, that he is not Michael Jackson.  Nor will he ever be.  I’m sure youtube clips will surface soon. Until then, chill out to Usher’s “Confessions.”  Don’t expect anything too juicy.

In the meantime, something a little bit more tolerable in a novelty gimmick way: Yeah.
