Kooks Front Man kicked Arctic Monkeys Front Man in the face

NME has the goods:

“[Luke] Pritchard told The Daily Mirror that the two bands do not see eye-to-eye, and that their dispute has got physical in the past.

“We have had a weird relationship with the Arctics since we first met,” he explained. “I had to kick Alex in the face after he tried to pull the leads out of my guitar pedals while we were on stage.”

He added: “I tried to patch things up with Alex recently but he just turned his back and walked away. I suppose they are quite arrogant.”

Middle School Dances in the South Bronx

…or as I like to call these three hours, A Wrinkle in Time.  Tonight I chaperoned a middle school dance for my  educational institution, and what a trip it was.  First, let me say: they are all great kids; some are in very difficult situations, but all are wonderful in some way.  It seems that they are always getting up to dance in my classroom, so I thought this would be a perfect way for them to get some nervous energy out of their collective system.

So the DJ came in, set up, and the jams started flowing like the Hudson River.  And for the first 45 minutes, no kids danced! After all this time spent grooving in my room when they were supposed to be learning, I suppose they just got tired of it.  This turned out not to be the case, as they took the dance floor not long after those 45 minutes expired. The boys mostly liked to play with the balloons, pretend they were basketballs.  The girls crowded in the corners, talking about the balloon-focused boys.  And the teachers/chaperones just watched and awkwardly remembered middle school.

It has been said that one has not lived until one has lived through a middle school dance in the south Bronx.  While I don’t think that is necessarily true, the experience absolutely comes highly recommended.  Among Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, and a lot of Spanish music, I give you a sampling of the DJ’s playlist for tonight:

Kanye West’s Flashing Lights

Snoop’s Drop It Like It’s Hot

JT’s Sexy Back

Akon’s Smack That

Lil Wayne ft. Kanye West-Lollipop

and of course…the Electric Slide

Yes, this is a music blog. And that’s why the M.I.A. part is there. Today, John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama. Nice work, O.

Additionally, a few days ago, I found this on M.I.A.’s myspace page:
