Guest Post: Keep on Truckin’
May 14, 2008
Believe it or not, we are not the only ones who write about music. In fact, after doing a bit of research, it turns out that there are dozens (if not HUNDREDS) of blogs dedicated to music on the internets. And so, long live the guest post:
Additionally, it should be noted that the IIG,IG founders often disagree on music. One man’s trash is another man’s…Drive by Truckers? (Kidding, Shea.) This is only expected to happen to a greater degree when a guest writes for the blog. This one should rattle a few cages with the editors of the blog, but in the end: If It’s Good, It’s Good.

If you claim to know anything about music, you better know about The Shoals region of Northern Alabama. Without The Shoals we wouldn’t have Sam Phillips, W.C. Handy, or The Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar.” And damn it if it hasn’t produced three members of the finest contemporary Southern rock band there is, The Drive-By Truckers.
Rolling Stone them the “boldest ‘n’ baddest Southern band in the land.” Since 1996, these Boys From Alabama (and a lady) have been serving up hits like my Auntie Janie serves up sweet tea on a hot Alabama day. Their first critically acclaimed album came in 2001 with the release of Southern Rock Opera and these Lynyrd Skynyrd reincarnates haven’t stopped, following it up with four more albums in the past 7 years. With lyrics that shoot exceptionally straight and the vocals of front men Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley, Jason Isbell (2001-2006, 3 Albums), and a new twist with Shonna Tucker on their newest release, this band can’t go wrong. When they hit the stage with three guitars up front and a bottle of Jack Daniels to pass around you get a mighty fine show and an even better performance the deeper they get into the bottle. With the January 22nd release of Brighter Than Creations Dark, DBT really rev up their Skynyrd side. Hammering out hits, this album and band is the way rock n’ roll should be…served up Southern style.
Here’s a taste of that Southern-fried sound:

Sounds like they have potential for an interesting live show. Also is that Kim?

In fact, it is. She heard that Jim Halpert was going to be guest appearing with the DBTs this summer and decided to join in.
